Green Summit - An Environmental Action Plan for the Future

Local environmental organizations including Tuleyome, Yolo Audubon Society, Sierra Club, California Native Plant Society, the Burrowing Owl Preservation Society, Environmental Council of Sacramento, Planning and Conservation League, Habitat 2020, Putah Creek Council, and Sacramento Tree Foundation will be gathering to discuss the state of our environment and how we can attain a healthy environment and sustainable lifestyle for the future. The event is also sponsored by the City of Woodland.

Join us, participate and help identify the key goals and strategies to achieve our objectives for the future: Saturday, November 15th, from 9 am to 5 pm; in the Woodland Community and Senior Center, 2001 East Street, Woodland, CA. (Summit details)

Annual Elections to the Yolano Group Committee

The annual election to the Yolano Group Management Committee is fast approaching. Election statements and the ballot will appear in the November Flame. The Nominating Committee is requesting submission of names of Yolano Group members who would like to serve on the Management Committee. Candidates must be Sierra Club members in good standing. Management Committee terms are for two years.

If you are passionate about the environment, please consider running for a position on the Management Committee. Service on the Committee is a very rewarding experience. We are an active and interesting group. Please consider working with us. To get an idea of issues we are working on, check out this website. To submit a name to the Nominating Committee as a candidate for election, contact Pam at 756-6856, Ida at 758-1807, Alan at 758-5173 or Rodney at 757-1633. Group members may also seek election by petition. A petition candidate must obtain the supporting signatures of 10 Yolano Group members in good standing. The petition and candidate statement must be received by the Nominating Committee no later than October 27, 2008.

All candidates, whether by nomination by the Nominating Committee or by petition, must submit a candidate statement of 250 words or less by October 27, 2008. Submit candidate statements to Pam Nieberg at pnieberg@dcn.davis.ca.us.

The list of candidates and their statements will appear in the November Flame along with the ballot to be submitted to the Management Committee.

Timeline for the election:

  • August 18, 2008: Appointment of the Nominating Committee
  • October 13, 2008: Deadline for submission of names to the Nominating Committee
  • October 27, 2008: Deadline for submission of petitions and all candidate statements.
  • November 17, 2008: Ballots mailed in Flame
  • December 19, 2008: Election closes.
  • December 23, 2008: Ballots counted
  • January 8, 2009: New Committee takes office.

The Yolano Group
Oak woodland landscape in Yolo county Welcome! This is the local group for Sierra Club members living in Yolo county (Davis, Winters, Woodland), part of Solano county (Dixon, Rio Vista) and a small part of Colusa county. Are you concerned about environmental issues in our area? You may want to join us.

The Yolano Group management committee meets on the first Thursday of each month. We welcome your attendance and ideas. There are volunteer positions to be filled. Care to get involved? Call Chair, Pam Nieberg, at (530) 756-6856.
