Volunteer Trail Work in Bidwell Park. Volunteers are needed to work in restoration areas, on trails an to remove invasive plants. Various projects are scheduled almost every week. Sunday, July 6 – Mello Hike at Colby Meadows (grade 1, class A) This 4 mile hike has some short climbs and uneven terrain. Boots or stout walking shoes are recommended. Bring lunch, water, sunscreen and appropriate clothing. If you wish bring binoculars, camera and bird and plant field guides. After the hike we will drive up to the Colby Mountain Fire Lookout. Saturday, July 12 – Bumpass Hell to Mill Creek Falls (grade 2, class B) A beautiful, mostly downhill shuttle hike through some of Lassen National Park’s most scenic areas. We first will visit the fumeroles and geysers at Bumpass Hell then continue on to Cold Boiling Lake and then pass by beautiful Crumbaugh Lake and Conard Meadows. We will finish the 7-8 mile hike with Mill Creek Falls and then climb to our vehicles at the South Visitor Center. Meet at Chico Park & Ride at 8:30AM or at the Bumpass Hell trailhead at 10AM. Thursday-Wednesday, July 17-23 – Sierra High Route Backpack from Piute Pass to McGee Pass (grade 4, class D) Enjoy spectacular vistas along the spine of the High Sierras above the John Muir Trail on the most beautiful portion of the Sierra High Route. A predominately cross country backpack through Humphrey Basin, Bear Lakes Basin, across the Mono Divide and exiting via Tully Hole and McGee Lakes. We will traverse 6 cross country passes along the way. A strenuous trip for experienced backpackers in good condition. Call or email leader to sign up or get more info. Thursday, July 31 through Monday, August 4 – Prairie Creek State Park, Fern Canyon, Gold Bluffs Beach Campout. Join the leaders on any of the days for the best camping trip of the year. Explore the old growth redwood trails, Fern Canyon, Gold Bluffs Beach, the Roosevelt Elk herds and the peaceful ambience of the north coast as it was before white men arrived in the area. Prepaid nightly fee of $20 to $40 depending on the number of campers and vehicles. We will be staying from Thursday P.M. until Monday noon.
