Clair Tappaan Lodge

Whether you're looking for a family hike to a secluded swimming hole or a challenging hike to one of the area's high peaks, Donner Summit offers a variety of trails for hikers of all abilities. The Pacific Crest Trail is only one mile from the lodge and provides easy access to miles of trails. Many hikes begin right at Clair Tappaan's backdoor or are just a short drive from the Lodge.

Suggested Hikes:

  • Summit Lake - This easy 4 mile round trip has limited elevation gain and is a great choice for the entire family. Hikers experience spectacular views, seasonal wildflowers, and a nice lake destination for lunch and fishing.
  • Donner Peak/Mt. Judah Loop Trail - For a moderate hike with outstanding views of the Donner Summit area and beyond, this 5 mile round trip hike is an excellent choice. Hikers use the Pacific Crest Trial to climb approximately 1000 feet up to this pair of peaks. Once on top the rewarding 360 degree views of mountains, glacial valleys, and lakes are spectacular.
