Road and mountain biking in the neighborhood of CTL are wonderful activities when the snow
is gone. There are rides for all skill levels from the paved path along the Truckee River
to the challenging single-track Hole-in-the-Ground trail making CTL a great base camp for
biking adventure. Lance Armstrong would think nothing about leaving CTL in the morning,
take a spin around Lake Tahoe and being back for supper. Beginners
will find more modest ridesHere are some examples of rides in the vicinity of
CTL:
Donner Pass Road down to Donner Lake and Truckee (up
to 19 miles, 1200 feet of elevation gain round trip) has views of the scenery and the
railroad tunnels and snow sheds built by Chinese workers in the 1860s. It also passes by
the Donner Memorial State Park and Emigrant Trail Museum. It is flat along Donner Lake to
Truckee.
Truckee River Path from Tahoe City to
Squaw Valley is a great beginners ride, even for kids.
Pole Creek Area offers miles of rides on dirt
roads for those in good shape.
