Wildflower Photography

Bear Valley, Ron Maertz

Spring Wildflower Hike
in Bear Valley
In mid-April a large group of Sierra Club photographers headed for Bear Valley for some prime wildflower photography. Bear Valley is located off Highway 20 between Williams and Clear Lake. A variety of weather conditions greeted the group. We encountered everything from bright sunshine to rain during the day. Those willing to get a little wet enjoyed photographing raindrops on wildflowers. This trip has become an annual outing for the Photography Section. (Photo: Ron Maertz)
Summer Wildflowers
at Winnemucca Lake
Late July is prime wildflower time in the Sierra’s. A small group of photographers participated in the annual hike from Woods Lake to Winnemucca Lake. A particularly warm spring made for an early wildflower season at elevations between 8000 and 9000 feet. A profusion of wildflowers greeted us on our trek to Winnemucca Lake. The leisurely hike on the slopes of Elephant Back, with many close-up and landscape opportunities, was enjoyed by all. (Photo: Ron Maertz)
