Brisk Morning Walk (1A). Davis (Singles)
Brisk 4-mile loop via Davis greenbelts/bike paths. May include Davis ponds, UC Davis campus, or arboretum. Meet 8 a.m. @ Peet’s Coffee in Market Place Shopping Center, corner of Sycamore Lane & West Covell Blvd. (from Hwy. 113, exit east on West Covell Blvd.). Not limited to singles. Leader: M. C. Day Hike (2B). Chewing Gum Lake - Emigrant Wilderness (Yokuts)
This hike is approximately 8 miles from Gianelli to lovely Chewing Gum Lake to Crabtree at elevations of about 7,000'+ with a steep climb at the beginning. This an intermediate hike. There is a short car shuttle. Swimming is an option, if warm enough. Bring lunch, 10 essentials, and $$ for dinner on the way home. Peak Climb (3C). Picketts & Hawkins Peaks (10,089')

Day Hike (3C). Grouse Ridge to Fall Creek Mountain and Five Lakes Basin (Sacramento)
Off I-80 and Bowman Road at Hwy.20. Beautiful wilderness area with many lakes (one every 1/2 mile). About 15 total miles and about 2,500' total elev. gain. Must be in excellent shape! Hostel Stay (1A). Point Reyes National Seashore (Yahi)
Come enjoy the ocean, wildlife and unique hostel experience at Point Reyes, northeast of San Francisco. Herds of elk and white Fallow deer; 200 species of birds; elephant seals; and many other animals make this refuge their home. We’ll walk or bike to the nearby ocean and enjoy the camaraderie of the hostel and the people who come from all over the world. Day Hike (3C). Mt. Hoffman (Tuolumne)
Frank's Birthday hike. This is a streneous hike from the May Lake trailhead to Mt. Hoffman, elevation 10,850'. It totals 6 miles round-trip with a rock scramble near the top and has an elevation gain of 2,100'. Limited to 15 hikers. Contact leader for reservation and more details. A brief history of the zoo will be provided, then we will view the attractive homes on S. Land Park Drive and stop to see the many attractions in Capitol Park before we lunch at Marshall Park. The entrance fee to Sutter’s Fort (adjacent to Marshall Park) is $5.00, and a special event is planned on this date. Meet 10 a.m. @ entrance to the Sacramento Zoo. Learn about the rehabilitation of marine mammals at the Marine Mammal Center, visit and eat a bag lunch at the Marin Headlands Visitor Center, and follow up with your choice of a short hike (1.5 miles) around Rodeo Lagoon or resting on Rodeo Beach. Trail is gravel with a few slippery spots, stairs, and about 100' elevation gain. Poison oak along trail. Limited to 18 people. Bring lunch, water, and sun and wind protection. Rain cancels. Day Hike (2B). Smith Lake - Desolation Wilderness (Sacramento)
This is a moderately-strenuous hike on a high alpine trail from Wrights Lake up to Smith Lake, with stops at Grouse and Hemlock Lakes. Hike stats: 6.5 miles (round trip), elevation gain 1,700', starting elevation 6,900'. We’ll check out the outstanding scenery and the late season wildflowers. This is NOT a leisurely hike! It will be moderately paced over a rocky trail with significant elevation gain. Hikers must be in good to excellent condition. Bring the essentials, including 2-3 quarts water, snacks, lunch, layered clothing due to changeable weather conditions, and $$ for carpool drivers. Hike limited to 12. No dogs. Hike rain or shine. Day Hike (2B). (Yahi)
Join us in a mid-fall trip to gorgeous Green Island Lake, Frog Lake, and Soda Creek's Aspen groves. This is a magical wilderness experience just two moderate miles from the road. We'll lunch at rarely visited Frog Lake, swing by Green Island Lake and proceed downhill to Aspen groves that should be in gorgeous color. Backpack (2B). Sinkyone Wilderness State Park - Lost Coast Trail (Delta Sierra)
Black sand beaches, bluffs, redwood groves, tide pooling, sea caves and great ocean views. On Friday, we will drive to the Needle Rock Visitors Center, camp there and do a day hike to the north. Saturday we backpack 4 miles and about 1,200' of elevation gain thru two enchanting redwood groves to Wheeler Camp on Jackass Creek. Sunday we do a loop day hike on a service road to the Sally Belle Grove, pickup a seldom-used ridge trail back to the Lost Coast Trail, then on to Little Jackass Camp and beach, and then return to Wheeler. On Monday, we will hike back to our vehicles (4 miles and 1200' elevation gain) arriving noonish. Bear canisters are recommended, hanging food will also work. Rain cancels. Enjoy a pleasant stroll around Sugar Pine Reservoir, enjoying the lake views from the benches en route. Plan on spending an hour at the lake in mid hike. Have lunch, water, and $$ for parking fee. From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the "stuff" in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. Day Hike (1A). Malakoff Diggin's State Historic Park, Nevada County (Seniors)
Learn about the hydraulic gold mining of the 1850s while hiking a 5-mile trail. Depending on group, we may walk an additional trail. Explore buildings of historic North Bloomfield. Mountain Bike Ride (2B). Foresthill Divide Loop (Sacramento)
This is a mountain bike ride that follows a single-track dirt trail along the Foresthill Divide east of Auburn. The ride will be moderately-paced and will cover 11 miles round trip, with a total elevation gain of around 1000’ (counting the ups and downs). This is a fun trail that doesn’t do a lot of climbing. We’ll hike part of the southern section of the Olmstead Loop. Our loop will take us among Oak woodlands to Knickerbocker Pond. Trail may be muddy in spots if recent rains. Bring lunch, water and essentials. Meet 9:30 a.m. @ Burger King on Lincoln way (at Foresthill Exit) off I-80 in Auburn or 10:00 a.m. @ trailhead if coming from Cool/Placerville. Enjoy autumn colors in the Queen of the Northern Mines, Nevada City, elevation 2,477' as we stroll about 4 miles on hilly city streets.
