We’ll hike from the downtown Hyatt Regency Hotel through Fisherman’s Wharf and have lunch on the Marina Green (where last year we got to see dolphins enjoying the Bay’s water). Then we will hike up to and across the Golden Gate Bridge and down to the picturesque town of Sausalito where we can either window shop or have a beverage of our choice while we await the ferry to take us back to San Francisco. 9 miles and 200’ elev. gain. Bring lunch, water, layered clothing, and $$ for your driver, BART ($7.20 round trip), ferry ($6.75) and an optional dinner afterward. Bike Ride (4A) Fish Hatchery to Folsom Lake (Singles) Ride up to Beals Point at Folsom Lake and perhaps beyond, from the Fish Hatchery off Hazel Ave and Hwy. 50, along the American River Bike Trail, which is paved. A moderately paced ride of 18 to 20 miles, with some hills, 750' elevation gain. We'll have an early lunch or snack at Folsom Lake, perhaps walk down to the lake, then ride back down the hill. Great views of Lake Natomas and Folsom Lake. Single track "detour" upon request. Bring lunch, water, snacks, tire kit, helmet, and fully prepared bike, etc. Call for reservation by June 3rd. We will use the long hours of daylight to hike up Cold Canyon along a lovely stream to the old homestead where we will have a picnic dinner. This hike is only about 3 miles long, but does involve some rocky and uneven terrain. About 300’ elevation gain. On this strenuous loop hike in beautiful Mt. Tamalpais State Park, we’ll make our way to the summit of 2,571’ East Peak and enjoy a spectacular view of the Bay Area! 7.5 total miles, 1,026’ elev. gain. Both peaks are accessed from Hwy 108. This trip will climb two peaks during the weekend and is a car camp at a campground. Saturday we will hike to the summit of Leavitt Peak (11,570) and 10 miles round trip. Camp Saturday night and climb Disaster Peak (10,047) and 10 miles round trip Sunday. June 21, Saturday Conservation Tour (1A) Moonlight Fire and Proposed Copper Mine Tour (Yahi) (Educational) An opportunity to learn about two major environmentally devastating events (one realized and one potential). You will see/discuss the effects and related ramifications resulting from last year’s Moonlight and Antelope forest fires covering 100 square miles. You will also get to look over the open pit, acid heap leach copper mines locations proposed for the same area. Local experts and concerned citizens will be there to provide information and answer questions. Dress for hiking but distances covered will be short and not difficult. Baked treats and drinks will be provided, bring a lunch. Butte County residents meet at Chico Park & Ride at 9 am. Plumas County residents meet at Nelson and Main St. in Taylorsville at 11 am. Yuba River Canyon Join us for a strenuous day hike on the seldom used Bed Bug Smith Trail, so named for a miner at a 1906 dance in Comptonville whose collar was home to a bed bug. The trail takes us down 1600 feet in 2 miles to the bottom of the river canyon. We return on the same trail. This is a scouting trip for a future gorge scramble. Expect to return late in the evening. This is a moderate 7-mile hike with 1,200’ elev. gain. It is one of the Club’s favorite hikes with beautiful mountain scenery and mixed shade and sun. Bring 2 quarts of water. Boots are preferred, but not required. Come explore this part of the California Coast near Pacifica. Hike starts at the coast and climbs steeply in the first 3 miles to the ridge above. We will hike through coastal scrub habitat up to San Pedro Mountain at around 1,700 feet. Total elevation gain is about 2,000 feet. On a clear day there are excellent views of the ocean, coastline, Mt. Tamalpais, and Mount Diablo. Optional dinner afterward. Hike is advertised for ages 18-40s, but everyone is welcome. Free use of kayaks to the first 25 sign-ups. Explore our waterways, wetlands, and wildlife while picking up litter. Have fun on the water and be part of our clean-up effort.
