GENETIC ENGINEERING
Genetic engineering (also called transgenic or genetically modified) refers to a process that takes genetic material from an organism and artificially inserts it into an entirely separate organism. This could never occur in nature.
For example, genes from fish have been inserted into strawberries. Genes from bacteria have been inserted into corn, soy beans, and cotton.
Within the Mother Lode Chapter, we have activists in three Counties:
Rita de Quercus in Nevada County ritadequercus@yahoo.com
Olga Mandrussow in Sacramento County Olga.Mandrussow@mlc.sierraclub.org; 916.457-4783
Pam Nieberg in Yolo County pam.nieberg@mlc.sierraclub.org
We encourage you to contact the activist in the County nearest you, or – better yet – consider starting a GE Committee in your own Group!
